In the world of floral arts, there are two major styles—Ikebana and Western floral arrangement. Though both celebrate the beauty of flowers, their philosophy and approach differ deeply.
This piece was created at the intersection of both traditions. By grouping lisianthus and chrysanthemums into a modern vase, I sought to express their vibrant beauty while honoring the essence of each art form.
As a doctor who encounters life and healing every day, I find that arranging flowers mirrors how we observe the subtle states of life—whether in a patient or a petal.

💠 Ikebana vs. Floral Arrangement: What’s the Difference?
Ikebana is a Japanese art form rooted in minimalism, balance, and the beauty of negative space. Each stem and branch is carefully placed to create a conversation between nature and the surrounding space.
On the other hand, Western floral arrangement emphasizes color, volume, and visual richness. Flowers are often grouped closely, creating a lush and decorative effect that celebrates abundance.
🌸 This Work: A Fusion of Forms
In this piece, I aimed to blend the structure of Ikebana with the unity of Western design.
I grouped soft yellow lisianthus on the left and lavender pink chrysanthemums on the right, creating both contrast and harmony.
The vessel—a modern double-cylinder ceramic vase—adds a calm, urban atmosphere that allows the flowers to breathe while standing out.
🩺 A Doctor’s Perspective: Structure and Vitality
Whether arranging flowers or caring for patients, I’m observing the state of life as expressed through form.
The tone of voice, skin tone, breathing rhythm—these are not unlike the posture of a flower or the way it blooms.
Creating cohesion among different blooms reminds me of supporting patients with diverse needs in one harmonious space.

In the world of flowers, there is no single “correct” way.
Whether you lean toward Ikebana or floral arranging, your unique sense of beauty will shine through.
Why not try arranging flowers in your own style?

🌼 Why don’t you start a life with flowers?
Perhaps it is in these hectic days that we need flowers that bloom softly.
The first thing I tried was a flower subscription service👇. It’s affordable to start, easy to cancel, and fits right into your lifestyle.
You don’t have to do ikebana right off the bat, just a quick display of flowers in a vase at hand will do.
A simple bouquet can bring peace to even the busiest days.
That’s what makes flower subscriptions so appealing.
