Hello, this is Ikebanadoctor.

This time, I’d like to share my early morning visit to “Kodai Hasu no Sato” (Ancient Lotus Village) in Gyoda City, Saitama. As a busy physician, I find that immersing myself in nature is an essential way to restore balance to both mind and body.

In early July, as the lotus reached full bloom, I was captivated by their beauty in the stillness of the morning. The sense of calm these flowers bring is akin to deep, soothing breaths. For those of us constantly caught in the hustle and bustle, the serenity and beauty found in nature act as an irreplaceable “prescription for the soul.”

I’ve documented this moving experience along with many photographs. From the elegance of the lotus flowers, to the contrast with their large green leaves, and the stunning rice paddy art visible from the observation tower—let’s relive this rich sensory morning together.

What Is the Ancient Lotus? – A Miraculous Flower Blooming Across Millennia

The “ancient lotus” refers to lotus seeds that were discovered in a stratum estimated to be 1,400 to 3,000 years old and successfully germinated in modern times. This miraculous flower, which maintained its vitality over millennia, symbolizes eternity, rebirth, and the mystery of life.

Encountering the Ancient Lotus in the Crisp Morning Air

I visited on a sunny morning in early July, just before 7 a.m. Despite the early hour, the summer sun was already intense and the humidity was noticeable. Still, the lotus flowers blooming in the crisp morning light were truly mystical.

Appreciating the Contrast Between Flowers and Leaves

The joy of viewing lotus flowers is not limited to the blossoms alone. Their wide, circular leaves are also a highlight. Layers of vibrant green leaves stretch out to cover the pond, creating a quintessential summer landscape.

I was especially moved by the sight of fallen petals gently resting on top of the leaves. Like a still-life painting created by nature, this delicate scene brought a sense of calm to my heart.

Morning dew and droplets often linger on the leaves. When viewed from different angles, the sparkling water and petals create an enchanting visual combination.

Don’t Miss It! Rice Paddy Art from the Top of Gyoda Tower

After admiring the ancient lotus, I headed to the iconic Gyoda Tower within the park. From the 50-meter-high observation deck, a stunning view of rice paddy art awaits.

The 2024 design featured characters from the popular anime “Demon Slayer”—Tanjiro Kamado —crafted from differently colored rice plants in an expansive field.

Created through the dedicated efforts of local farmers and community volunteers, this living canvas transforms as the rice grows, adding to its charm.

From a Doctor’s Perspective: The Lotus as a Symbol of Healing and Renewal

As a general practitioner and emergency physician, I encounter many patients every day. Through this experience, I have come to strongly believe that the mind and body are deeply interconnected.

The lotus, blooming beautifully from murky waters, symbolizes hope for those facing illness or hardship.

Spending time gazing at lotus flowers has become a vital form of self-care for me. As I take deep breaths and immerse myself in their beauty, I feel my autonomic nervous system relax and my thoughts become clearer.
